All benefits of this precise laser at a glance

Faster & more accurate than any other laser, leading to least possible exposure of the eye minimizing undesired side-effects and enhancing regeneration and recovery.

linked to the corneal topographer & aberrometer enabling individualized treatment.

The small spot size of the laser beam of 0.7 mm permits the finest corneal corrections of unsurpassed quality-accurate, smooth and gentle treatment.

Any pupil movement is instantaneously detected and dynamically compensated during laser correction by the ultrafast active MEL 80 eyetracker which eliminates the risk of misplaced treatment.

FREEDOM FROM GLASSES - LASIK surgery

The U.S FDA approved MEL 80 of Carl Zeiss is one of the most up-to-date and efficient excimer lasers enabling extremely safe and precise correction.

The Carl Zeiss CRS master offers exact measurement of the vision defect, a precise topography of your cornea and intelligent formulae for calculating the individual laser pattern with which the laser is controlled.

What is LASIK?

LASIK is the acronym for Laser-Assisted in Situ Keratomileusis, a type of Refractive Laser Eye Surgery for correcting refractive errors like Myopia, Hyperopia, and Astigmatism. Millions of patients today choose LASIK as an alternative to wearing corrective eyeglasses or contact lenses. Lasik Surgery is the latest high technology Eye Care Treatment in India. It is becoming very popular as in the USA and Europe during the last few years.

How does Laser Correction work?

Preoperative Checkup :

Individual Planning for Customised Treatment

Your eye doctor will first check various parameters of your eye like

The stability of your spectacle number

Your retina and intra-ocular pressure

Pachymetry to measure the corneal thickness

Keratometry to measure the corneal curvature

Corneal topography to measure the shape of the cornea

Aberrometry : Advanced medical technology helps determine the structure of your eyes. It obtains a precise 'digital impression' of your eyes to detect even the most subtle anomalies in the visual process & plan an individual laser treatment that is optimized for you.

With individual planning, each eye receives a tailor-made ablation that is beyond the capability of spectacle or contact lens corrections.

The lens is the part of the eye that helps focus light on the retina. The retina is the eye's light-sensitive layer that sends visual signals to the brain. In a normal eye, light passes through the lens and gets focused on the retina. To help produce a sharp image, the lens must remain clear.

Operation

Local anesthetic eye drops are instilled in the eye making the surgery absolutely painless. No injections or sedation is given. A corneal flap is created using a microkeratome with a hinge left at one end of this flap. The flap is folded back & the excimer laser (193 nm) is used to remodel the corneal stroma. Finally, the flap is repositioned, where it sticks back in place on the reshaped cornea.

Post-operative

A course of antibiotic, anti-inflammatory & lubricant eye drops.

Darkened pair of goggles to protect your eyes from bright lights

Protective shields to prevent rubbing of the eyes when asleep.

Proper post-operative care is essential to minimize the risk of post-surgical complications.

How long is the treatment / Is it painful?

The entire process takes less than ten minutes in which the laser treatment itself takes only a few seconds. The treatment is not painful. Both eyes are usually treated together. There may be a little irritation for a few hours after the operation.

Custom LASIK Surgery or Wavefront Lasik

With custom LASIK, your eye's ability to focus light rays is measured, and a 3-D map in wavefront technology is created that demonstrates irregularities in the way your eye processes images. Information contained in the map guides the laser in customizing the treatment to reshape your eye's corneal surface so that these irregularities can be corrected.

Potential Benefits of Wavefront-Guided Custom LASIK

Wavefront technology is groundbreaking because it has the potential to improve not only how much you can see, visual acuity measured by the standard 20/20 eye chart, but also how well you can see, in terms of contrast sensitivity and fine detail. This translates into a reduced glare, halos and difficulty with night vision.

Can I get Lasik Surgery done if I am over 40 yrs. of age ?

Myopic (nearsighted) people who are close to the age mid- to late forties will require either reading glasses or bifocal eyeglasses. This need for reading glasses may be minimized by performing a variation of the LASIK procedure called “slight monovision”. In this procedure, the dominant eye is set for distance vision, while the non-dominant eye is set to the prescription of the patient's reading glasses.

What you need to understand about LASIK?

LASIK is a surgical procedure intended to reduce a person's dependence on glasses or contact lenses and not, as is usually thought, designed to totally eliminate the spectacle power. The amount of the post LASIK residual power is based on many factors like pre-operative very high myopia or high astigmatism or corneas which are not perfectly symmetrical. The power will reduce to the level where you may not need to use glasses for over 90% of the time. Hence, it is advisable to have realistic expectations from the surgery.

What are the other procedures available?

Other procedures include photorerfractive keratectomy(PRK) & LASEK. In both these procedures, one expects a slower recovery, & more pain than in LASIK. Refractive lens exchange & phakic Intraocular lenses are also other options in certain cases. In a nutshell, LASIK can treat a majority of the stages of myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism.

The LASIK procedure is safe, fast & almost painless.

A computer controls the laser used in the LASIK procedure, which makes it very accurate and precise in performing the procedure.

A single treatment will achieve the expected results of a great improvement of vision in majority of the cases.

The results of the LASIK operation may vary from patient to patient because every patient has a different level of healing.

Certain patients may have dry-eye symptoms especially if they had this condition before the LASIK procedure.

Very rarely some patients may experience visual side effects like halos & glare after surgery, but custom LASIK has significantly reduced these effects.

Therefore, you should first weigh the pros and cons of LASIK surgery and consult your doctor about the LASIK treatment. Your doctor could best help you make the right decision.
